How to Choose the Right Flowers for Every Season
Posted on March 15
One of the most common questions we hear from customers is, "What flowers are in season right now?" Choosing seasonal blooms is not only more affordable but also gives you the freshest, longest-lasting arrangements possible.
Spring brings tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and ranunculus. These flowers thrive in the cooler temperatures of March through May and bring vibrant color after a long winter. Tulips in particular are a customer favorite at our Simpsonville shop during the spring months.
Summer is the season for sunflowers, zinnias, dahlias, and hydrangeas. The warm South Carolina sun produces bold, saturated colors that look stunning in both casual and formal arrangements. Sunflowers straight from local growers are always a hit.
Fall is all about chrysanthemums, asters, marigolds, and ornamental kale. Rich golds, deep oranges, and warm burgundies capture the spirit of the harvest season perfectly.
Winter features amaryllis, poinsettias, holly berries, and evergreen accents. White roses and red carnations are also popular during the holiday season for festive arrangements and gifts.
No matter the time of year, our team at Keith Wheeler's Flowers can help you select the perfect seasonal blooms for any occasion. Stop by our shop or give us a call at (864) 555-0123.
5 Simple Tips to Make Your Cut Flowers Last Longer
Posted on February 8
There is nothing more disappointing than watching a beautiful bouquet wilt after just a few days. The good news is that with a few simple steps, you can significantly extend the life of your cut flowers. Here are our top five tips from years of experience in the floral business.
1. Start with a clean vase. Bacteria is the number one enemy of cut flowers. Wash your vase thoroughly with hot water and a drop of bleach before adding your arrangement. A clean environment makes a major difference.
2. Trim stems at an angle. Use sharp scissors or a floral knife to cut stems at a 45-degree angle. This increases the surface area for water absorption and prevents stems from sitting flat on the bottom of the vase.
3. Use flower food. Those little packets that come with your flowers are not optional. They contain sugar for energy, acidifiers to help water move up the stem, and antibacterial agents. If you run out, a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of bleach in the water works in a pinch.
4. Change the water regularly. Every two to three days, dump the old water, rinse the vase, refill with fresh water and food, and re-cut the stems. This simple routine can add days to the life of your bouquet.
5. Keep flowers cool. Heat, direct sunlight, and drafts all accelerate wilting. Place your arrangement in the coolest room of the house and away from windows, appliances, and fruit bowls. Some people even refrigerate their flowers overnight for an extra-long display.
Follow these tips and your next bouquet from Keith Wheeler's Flowers should look beautiful for well over a week. If you have questions about caring for specific flowers, feel free to email us at [email protected].
